چکیده

The citrus leafminer, Phyllocnistis citrella Stainton (Lepidoptera: Gracillariidae), is a world-wide pest of citrus (Heppner 1993) described originally in India (Stainton 1856). In the USA, it was initially found in Homestead, Florida and parts of Dade, Broward and Collier counties in 1993 (Heppner 1993). Its distribution is now widespread across Florida in citrus-growing regions, and is spreading throughout the Gulf Coast and into Alabama, Louisiana, Texas and west to California (Gil 1999); in 2000 it was also recorded in Hawaii (Nagamine and Heu 2003). P. citrella attacks all varieties of citrus as well as other Rutaceae and certain ornamentals; however, grapefruit, tangerine and pumello are the most susceptible hosts (Legaspi and French 2003).

Attraction of A Native Florida Leafminer, Phyllocnistis Insignis (Lepidoptera: Gracillariidae), to Pheromone of an Invasive Citrus Leafminer, P. Citrella: Evidence for Mating Disruption of a Native Non-Target Species

We collected a native North American species, Phyllocnistis insignis (Frey & Boll) (Lepidoptera: Gracillariidae), in traps baited with a 3:1 blend of (Z,Z,E)-7,11,13-hexadecatrienal (triene) and (Z,Z)-7,11-hexadecadienal (diene), 2 components of the sex pheromone of the invasive citrus leafminer, P. citrella Stainton. No moths were caught in unbaited traps during 6 months of monitoring. We eval...

Season-long mating disruption of citrus leafminer, Phyllocnistis citrella Stainton, with an emulsified wax formulation of pheromone

The citrus leafminer, Phyllocnistis citrella Stainton (Lepidoptera: Gracillariidae), is an important pest of commercial citrus production throughout the world (Heppner 1993). Larvae damage leaves by creating serpentine feeding mines, which have been shown to reduce yield (Peña et al. 2000). More importantly,

Towards the identification and synthesis of the sex pheromone of the citrus leafminer, Phyllocnistis citrella Stainton (Lepidoptera: Gracillariidae).

The objective of this work was to characterize the sexual behavior of the citrus leafminer, Phyllocnistis citrella Stainton, as the foundation for the isolation, identification, and synthesis of the complete sex pheromone of this species. Mating occurred in a time window of 2h, starting 1h before the onset of photophase. The large majority of tested insects mated in the first two days after eme...

Suppression of citrus leafminer, Phyllocnistis citrella, with an attract-and-kill formulation

The citrus leafminer, Phyllocnistis citrella Stainton (Lepidoptera: Gracillariidae), is a worldwide pest of citrus crops and is responsible for proliferation of citrus bacterial canker, Xanthomonas axonopodis (Hasse) pv. citri (Gamma Proteobacteria: Xanthomonadaceae). We developed and evaluated an attracticide formulation, termed MalEx, for control of P. citrella. MalEx is a viscous paste with ...

A novel pheromone dispenser for mating disruption of the leafminer Phyllocnistis citrella (Lepidoptera: Gracillariidae).

The sex pheromone of the leafminer Phyllocnistis citrella Stainton (Lepidoptera: Gracillariidae) was deployed in a Florida citrus (Citrus spp.) grove by using a novel deployment device (IFM-413) containing SPLAT, a flowable formulation of an emulsified wax compound designed to provide slow release of semiochemicals. The device consisted of two disks connected by string. Each disk was loaded wit...
